44. Rue de l’Échaudé

Paris 1899  ref: GOAP 0373

Narrow streets and cobbled laneways wound their way through ancient Paris and in the interstices of these were often built narrow, prow-shaped structures described as ‘demeures à étraves.’ At a junction in the suburb of Saint-Germain-des-Pres where Rue de l’Échaudé and Rue de Seine meet, Goddard and Adela were each fascinated by the building, the atmosphere, and the morning activity of  the local population.
