48. The family Phaeton

Monksgrange c1895 ref: GOAP 0552

This low Phaeton carriage was used for recreational drives rather than for travelling over long distances. Nobody seems particularly happy at the thought of going visiting, even the donkey is impatiently moving its legs. There’s a doubt about the weather as they set off from home; the sun blinds are down and a wide open window indicates warmth and sunshine while overcoats suggest otherwise. The propriety of the childrens’ clothing indicates adherence to the custom and manners of dressing appropriately for the occasion.
